James' annual physical examination included a blood test.  He was a person who exercised moderately and loved his food. All this changed when the test results were announced by the physician.

The lab test showed that the percentage of LDL, the bad cholesterol was much more than the good cholesterol. The doctor warned that if immediate changes are not done, James will soon be suffering from high blood pressure, a heart attack or even a stroke.

James, being a father of 2 children, got the warning to take the situation seriously or face the consequence of not being able to provide for the needs of his family.

James had the habit of working out only twice a week, the doctor advised him to increase the frequency.  It meant working out four times a week and also take up other activities that help lower the cholesterol.

Only increased exercise without changing the food habits will not help.  The doctor advised James to change his diet and told him that no progress will take place if the food that is burned is simply replenished into the body.

James was referred to a dietitian by the doctor.  After a long discussion about the bad food that needs to be reduced, the two concluded to make some changes and replace the current food with healthier food so that the levels of bad cholesterol can be reduced.

The plan appeared simple on paper. James has to eat low fat food that is not rich in carbohydrates. For breakfast, James can eat the egg yellow but not the white portion.

Coffee has to be replaced with unsweetened tea.  James enjoys his cereals with his kids, but now he has to take non-fat milk and not the regular variety.

He has to eat some heavy food for lunch.  Chicken without skin can be eaten.  The quantity of steak should be considerably reduced and also mixed with a variety of vegetables and side dishes.

James will need some time to make these changes in his diet regimen and he will definitely get hungry by late afternoon.  Carrot sticks or apple are the ideal ways to fill up rather than eating donuts which have a lot of sugar.

James cannot have a cola with the snack, it must be exchanged with simple water or fruit juice.  The fruit juice has to be the natural one and not the artificial variety.

This strict diet program continues to dinner, which can constitute fish or pasta with some sidings. Since James will be sleeping for 6 to 8 hours after dinner, the dinner need not be too big.

Red wine can be safely consumed, one glass a day is better than beer which is high in calories. While it was a favorite drink of James, he had to give it up for the sake of good health.

This diet discipline is not just restricted to home or office.  James has to stick to it even during parties or while eating out. The person who is at imminent risk of heart disease or high blood pressure cannot take any days off. James is doing this not just for himself but for his loving family.

The subsequent check up with the physician indicated significantly different results.  The LDL levels had fallen, HDL was at a good level.  The diet regimen for James is one of the many options available in the market.  People can spend some time to choose the right program that can lower the cholesterol levels and make them healthy again.
